Pre-test and Case Study - Registered and paid participants will have the opportunity to evaluate existing knowledge of dermatopathology with a pre-test consisting of 25 questions, and complete individual case study of the 50 challenging digital images representing a wide range of inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. Participants who complete the pre-test and individual case study (in lieu of the in-person slide viewing sessions) are eligible to receive 2 CME credits. The pre-test and case study will only be available until Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. CST and will close when the Self-Assessment Discussion begins.
Self-Assessment Discussion - During the Self-Assessment Discussion, which will air Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. CST and is open to all meeting participants, faculty members will review diagnostic features and differential diagnoses of 50 challenging cases included in this year’s Self-Assessment Course.
Post-course Online Self-Assessment – A post-course online self-assessment will be available after the Self-Assessment Discussion and include 25 core knowledge cases in addition to the 50 advanced cases studied before the Self-Assessment Discussion. You must register and pay for the Self-Assessment Course to receive access to the post-course online self-assessment and the Self-Assessment Case Answers and Discussions – Part 2 PDF handout. Self-assessment Course registrants will receive a link to the post-course online self-assessment by email after the Self-Assessment Discussion on Friday morning, October 21, and will have up to 60 days to complete the activity. Self-Assessment registrants must take the post-course online self-assessment to receive CME/MOC credit for this activity.
Course Handouts – The Self-Assessment Case Answers and Discussions – Part 1 PDF handout consists of the 50 cases discussed at the meeting and will be available online to all annual meeting attendees on the annual meeting handout page on the ASDP website upon conclusion of the Self-Assessment Discussion. The Self-Assessment Case Answers and Discussions – Part 2 PDF handout consists of the 25 core knowledge cases and will be available online only as part of the post-course self-assessment. Only registered and paid attendees will have access to the Part 2 PDF handout and the post-course online self-assessment.
CME – Participants will receive 2 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM for completing the pre-test and study of the 50 challenging cases prior to the Self-Assessment Discussion, 2.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM for the Self-Assessment Discussion and 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM for completion of the post-course online self-assessment for a total of 10.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Participants must complete the pre-test and case study before they close to obtain the 2 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM, and must complete the post-course online self-assessment in order to claim the remaining 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. A CME certificate will be available to print after completing the meeting evaluation online.
MOC – The ASDP Annual Meeting post-course online self-assessment offers MOC self-assessment credits to satisfy the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) Component 2. A MOC certificate will be available to print upon successful completion of the post-course online self-assessment. ABD SAs – The ASDP has been approved by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) to produce Self-Assessment (SA) activities to satisfy the ABD Maintenance of Certification program Component 2. SA activities are intended to be of value to the practicing dermatologist. ASDP is solely responsible for the content. The ASDP Self-Assessment in Dermatopathology offers up to 100 MOC SA question credits. Participants must take the post-course online self-assessment in order to claim SA points.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Recognize key light microscopic features of common, rare and unusual entities.
- Differentiate between diseases with similar or overlapping histopathologic findings.
- Apply new diagnostic skills to a variety of skin conditions that will improve patient care.
- Incorporate new information gained from the presented cases into dermatopathology practice.
- Positively affect patient care with enhanced diagnostic skills in the more common cases likely to be seen in daily practice.
- Recognize areas where new information gained from the presented cases has identified potential practice gaps and changed performance related to the presented cases.
